I never got to talk to the castle staff enough to make any close connections... and there wasn't really anyone my age around me while I was growing up.
Actually, it's already a lot better. I was able to leave the castle for a while, and I made some very good friends who I could travel with... It was wonderful.
You would? I'd be happy to talk about them... Oh, and I want to hear about your friends, too!
Let's see... there's Flynn -- he's the first person I ever really got to talk to in the castle. He's an imperial knight, and he always works really hard!
And then there's Yuri. -- Not the Yuri here, he just has the same name. He's completely different from Flynn, always doing things his own way, getting in trouble... but he's really nice! He helped me get out of the castle, and supported me the whole way during our journey together.
Oh, and Rita! She's the smartest person I know. She's a mage, and she can figure out complex formulas like it's easy! I never got to make friends with any other girls until I met her. Now she's one of my best friends!
Yeah. There are five others who remember it, and then a few other people who I recognize from there who don't remember having been there. Or - versions of people I knew who were never actually in the school? It's kind of confusing.
Yeah! I'm not sure whether any of them were really close with her, though, but you could totally ask them. It's, uh - Bradley, Hope, Aikawa, Claude, and Alphinaud.
[just in case she's worried about it already, though:]
She was okay, just so you know. She lived to the end.
Well - did I tell you yet that back in the school, we were split up into four groups, each based on one of the seasons? I was in Winter for a while. They're really amazing people - really kind, really supportive. They always helped each other out.
[he pauses for a moment before resuming, his smile turning a little bit melancholy.]
A lot of really hard things happened, obviously. It wasn't a good place at all. But if I got the choice about whether to never have gone there in the first place... I don't think I would take that offer, because it would mean I never got to meet any of them. I wish it was in a better situation, but I still think it was worth it to get to spend time with them.
Some of my friends are, yeah! Nobody from Winter, but Aikawa, Bradley, and Claude are pretty cool. I didn't get to know Hope or Alphinaud as well, but they seemed nice, too.

They were kind to you, but you wouldn't call them your friends...?
no subject
It was different for you?
no subject
[he gives her a smile.]
I hope it'll be the same for you when you make it back home.

I'm glad...

[and he brightens up as he says that.]
I'd like to hear about them, if you'd like to tell me.

Rita... Is her last name Mordio?
no subject
Y, yes! That's her! Do you know her!?
no subject
Yeah! She was in my last group, back in the school. I didn't get to know her too well, but I definitely know that's her name.

There are other people here who were at that school too, right?
no subject
Yeah. There are five others who remember it, and then a few other people who I recognize from there who don't remember having been there. Or - versions of people I knew who were never actually in the school? It's kind of confusing.

Thank goodness... I-I mean, I know if anyone could make it, she would, but... [Of course, she worried about her.] Thank you for telling me.
--Oh, that's right! I wanted to hear about your friends, too!

[even if someone is smart, these situations can be unpredictable to say the least, after all. but he nods, brightening.]
Sure! I made a bunch of really great friends in my last group. You might be here for a while it I get into it, though.
[said as a joke.]
no subject
[She grins.]
So there's nothing to lose!

[he takes a few moments to decide.]

They were all really wonderful. Not to mention the people from other dorms that I made friends with, too.
