[The doorknob to the Fruitcake room jiggles awkwardly, as if someone's struggling with it, before finally turning and allowing the door to open. Behind it is Estelle, her hands full as she's carrying a tray with two cups of cocoa and a plate of cookies.]
Oh, good! You're here.
[She probably could have checked before getting the snacks, but. Oh well.]
[She'll answer with a small, grateful smile of her own.]
That's good. Um, please help yourself to these snacks!
[She'll set the tray down somewhere that he can reach, then takes the second cocoa for herself and sits on the edge of one of the beds, cupping it in both hands.]
So much has happened today, I just... I can hardly believe it...
Thanks-- I figured I'd be set after the sandwiches, but I could definitely go for more.
[at some point maybe he will question the hunger, but today is not that day, unfortunately. he just takes one of the cups and a cookie, with a pleased little hum.]
I sort of figured this was bound to happen eventually, though? I mean-- there had to be something. We can't all just sit around this lodge forever with nothing really going on... well, yes, I guess we could, actually, but it wouldn't make any sense?
Ah- I kind of don't have all the details, the others kind of went off without me to investigate at one point...
[he shrugs slightly, at that, taking a sip from his cup as well.]
But we were in what seemed like a simulation? We were playing a game, I think, and we had to work in pairs with other people there to plan a party, but we also had to make sure our responses and actions were things our partner liked.
Ooookay, let me try here. Um. They're-- how did I explain it to Zhongli-- it's like an illusion made by a machine? A video game is like... oh, it's like the movies on the tv here! Except instead of just watching, you're controlling it. It'd be like if in that movie, you had control of the main character and could make them do what you wanted. Not anything you want, sometimes the game just lets you pick specific actions to take, but you're still in control of that.
And a dating game is-- basically what it says in the name, the objective is to successfully date one of the love interest characters. Usually that means that when you're controlling the main character, you're trying to do things to get them to like your character, but you're also trying to make the right choices for the story in general.
More or less! We were physically there, instead of just playing it on a screen.
[when she asks about his partner, he adjusts the flower tucked behind one ear, with a fond little smile.]
I got paired with someone who was overseeing the party menu-- I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but he was actually really sweet? And the things we decided on all seemed to go over well, so I'm pretty sure that part was a success.
Mhmm. I figured it was worth trying to bring them back, we worked pretty hard on the food choices-- it would've been a shame to just leave them, right?
Week 1: Thursday Evening, before Curfew
Oh, good! You're here.

Said I would be, right? I've been trying to rest a little.

You're right. I knew there was probably something sinister behind all of this, something that we'd have to face sooner or later...
[... she'll take a sip of that cocoa.]
Can I ask what happened today?

...they could've used more practice, probably.
[local gamer quietly judges his companions.]

...I'm gonna guess you don't know what dating games are?

[he pauses a moment.]
Hang on, do you have video games?
no subject
I don't think so.

-is this helping at all?

[Luckily for both of them, Estelle just learned what a movie is this week.]
But instead of a character, you were making choices to try and please... a real person?
So who were you paired with?

Wait, is that where those sandwiches came from?
